ManagementDirect is an online, desktop information and learning resource to support
individual managers in organisations. We have structured it so that the content
is relevant to managers at all levels and at all stages in their careers.
ManagementDirect contains a very wide range of high quality content on management
and leadership in a variety of formats to suit all learning styles. This content
has been either produced by the CMI or licensed from 3rd parties. Content is regularly
updated and enhanced.
The following sections will give you a more in depth explanation of how to navigate
this site:
Freetext search
The easiest way to start using ManagementDirect is to type a word or phrase related
to the management issue that is currently of most concern to you into the freetext
search box. As soon as you start typing you will see a drop down box of suggested
terms drawn from over 700 of the mostly frequently selected keywords that we use
to catalogue our content. You can select any of these terms or continue to type
any word or phrase of your choice. However, words not shown in the dropdown list
will return fewer content items than those that are. If you would like to narrow
your search to a particular content type then you can select from the options in
the box to the right of the search box
Using the wordcloud
Alternatively you can select any of the terms seen in the wordcloud that appears
on the homepage. This shows the 36 most frequently searched terms based on date
collected from users over the last 12 months. The relative size of the terms indicates
their relative popularity.
Once you have selected a search term via either of the above methods your results
will
appear in a list that is categorised into three groupings to help you understand
how long it will take for you to digest the resources available:
- 5 minute briefing
- 20 minute briefing
- Extended briefing
Competencies
In the Competencies page you will find details of the National Occupational Standards
for Management and Leadership, (or for some users, details or your own organisation’s
own competency framework). Each competency area has been mapped against relevant
content from ManagementDirect to support your development in this area.
